Southwest Wisconsin Trout

The Wisconsin Fly Fishing Page has a set of interactive maps of the state. Number 22 is my area. I'm in Cassville in the lower left corner just above the word "river" by the notice box. I fish Borah, Castle Rock, Little Grant, and Big Green. I also get up to the West Fork of the Kickapoo each year and fish a new stream every once in awhile. There are miles of streams and while the most heard of can be busy, during the week even they  have lots of room for one more FFer. While there are good BWO hatches, I seldom hit one. An EHC is my main dry fly, although I am trying a CDC & EHC. When the water gets a bit murky I go to muddlers or large woolly-buggers. When I fish deep I usually use an Osthoff soft-hackle woolly-worm size 12 or 16.

At one of our DFF meetings we had Roger Kerr, a former fish manager from WI talk with us about WI streams. I have attached a letter he wrote to get us warmed up. I have also done a synopsis of an article by Rich Osthoff. The article appeared in May/June "American Angler".

I fish in Iowa during the winter. Bloody Run is the main stream I go to although I do visit others. Each spring the DFFs has a trout outing in NE Iowa that I attend. French Creek has been our primary site, but last year we fished N&S Bear and some others over by Decorah. I also get into Minnesota once in awhile. I've fished Trout Run and Hay Creek and a couple other lesser known streams.
