Key to fishing alone; Fish the popular areas of a stream on weekdays. Fish the head waters areas or streams on the weekend.
Watch for: Mayflies Baetis hatches April, May and Sept. Sulfurs in late may and June (size 14) Hexagenia in early summer in silty streams ( dusk) Tricos in August, morning hatch evening spinners Fish can be selective - carry an assortment of duns, emergers and spinners
Caddis Late spring black and dark gray size 16 During hatch use an emerger with stubby wings and trailing shuck When no hatch search with size 16 EHC
Midge Can happen any time through year Griffith's gnat and cream adult midge size 24
Terrestrials Early August thorough Sept Hoppers Size 10 July on beetles size 14 black foam
Scuds and Sow bugs In most SW streams size 12 to 18 in olive and gray
Prospecting With nymphs: Scuds, Chocolate Hare's Ear, Soft-Hackled Woolly Worm (black and grizzly 12 & 16)

Meat fly To represent crayfish and sculpin use a Bi-bugger size 8 & 12 cast straight upstream and dead drift or swing in larger pools etc. In dirty water use a black SHWB.
