Port Mahon Marginalia
Assassination Attempt Foiled
Members of the Cuisinart Corps prevented the assassination of the visiting
scholar Montgomery Cato. The attack occurred in town, near the area where Katie
the Alchemist had set up her bar.
The attacker was subdued, restrained, and returned to consciousness for
questioning when Allister of the Black Company usurped control of the prisoner.
The would be murderer was a former member of the Black Company's old regiment,
and had been presumed dead for several years.
The assassin had been mind controlled by an enemy of Cato's, the man
responsible for the murder of Cornelius Cato, Montgomery's father, and the theft
of a valuable Hellenic artifact. According to Montgomery Cato, this artifact
would allow the user to do or become whatever he wished. The murderer has
apparently gone into hiding within a days march of Port Mahon, and he is working
on gaining full use of his stolen possession. As the Hellenes worked their
magics in groups, he may need a sizable number of people assisting him.

Raiders Flee Port Mahon
On the evening of the April Mad Moon, the last of the Skallavarian raiders
escaped to sea. They had been stranded here for a month after failing to escape
aboard the disabled ship during the March Mad Moon. During that month, they had
occupied a farm house, felled timber, and constructed the longboat that they
used in their retreat
Of the four hundred raiders that landed, perhaps forty survived to make good
their flight. If regular Imperial troops are half as successful as the Port
Mahon citizen adventurers, the war with Skallavir is over already, and we are
just waiting on the news from the Empire.

Ancient Arena Discovered
A goblin entered town and offered to guide people to an underground arena in
exchange for food. The arena appeared much as it must have a thousand years
ago. It was populated by shadowy figures dressed as Ancient Hellenes, who
addressed the adventurers as "warriors from the future." Gladiator
style combat occurred, and the participants were rewarded in silver for
victories. All of the battles were evenly matched, recent arrivals in Port Mahon
fared as well against their opponents as the long time residents.
Margin Notes: An Editorial
Building Port Mahon
Port Mahon's building boom continues, a promising sign for the future of
this town. This month groundbreaking begins on one of the largest non-Imperial
buildings, a cooperative crafthall that will include a forge, an enchanters' lab
large enough for several workers, and an alchemist's lab, among other things.
The people of Port Mahon need to consider the future of the town. Right
now, growth and construction are haphazard. Anyone who has walked downwind of a
forge or soapmaker knows why they are built only in one quarter of most cities,
and the rest of the city is upwind.
Consider -- do you want a tannery or stockyards to be built next door to
your inn? It's time to plan, before that happens.

Out of Game
New safety ruling -- If a PC or NPC intentionally enters an area where it
would be dangerous to run, (such as dense underbrush, uneven footing, or steep
slopes) they are considered to have escaped.
Starting with the May game day, split-daying (PCing and then NPCing) will
be allowed only at the discretion of the game committee.
Summer game dates: June 21st, July 19th, August 16th, September 20th, and
October 18th. All games are held at Camp Wowitan, check-in opens at
10:30am. The game starts at noon, and ends at 6:00pm.
DIRECTIONS TO YMCA CAMP WOWITAN: Take US 45 north from
Milwaukee (or come down south from the north, whatever). Exit East Pleasant
Valley Road (about 10 miles north of Milwaukee, 3 miles south of West Bend) and
go east. At the stop sign (County Hwy P) turn left. Go one mile and turn right
on County Highway NN (also known as Hwy 143). Go about 4 miles to Church road,
then turn left on Church Road (going north) and stay on Church road until it
dead ends. The building at the end of the road is Grede Lodge, where check-in
is located.
I will not be in town the week prior to the next game. If you have any
information that you want in the June Marginalia, you must get it to me by June
7. If I have insufficient material, there will not be a June issue as I will
not have time to call people and get submissions from them. I can be reached at
