Port Mahon Marginalia
Goblins "Organized"
Two humans, Mother Jones and Joe Hill, have joined the goblins and are
attempting to rule them by "organizing" them. Groups of goblins
entered Port Mahon last Mad Moon. They all were wearing buttons with IBGW on
them, which they explained meant "I Be a Goblin Worker." Instead of
scattering and making themselves nuisances in several places at once, they
stayed near each other, and repeated slogans such as "We stand together."
"The Goblins United Will Never Be Defeated", "The Harder They
Come, the Harder They Fall", and "Take it easy--But TAKE it".
Under the leadership of the humans, the goblins have started mining
silversteel, which they are interested in trading for weapons. If they can
keep the loyalty and attention of their goblin workers, the humans have a very
lucrative scheme.
Kidnapped Farmer Ransomed
Goblins kidnapped Justin Pallidus, one of the farmers in Port Mahon and his
daughter Molly. She was able to escape from them and came into town to find
someone to help rescue her father. Patch of the Black Company gave her the
silver necessary to successfully ransom him.
According to Pallidus, he had been looking for more land to cultivate, and
had started working some additional acreage near goblin territory. He was
captured by a band of goblins and taken to one of their "organizers",
the human Mother Jones. After his ransom, he returned to town with the message
that "The goblins aren't going to take it any longer."
Zombie Plague Averted
Several of the local farmers became sick after a zombie was seen near their
farms. The zombie was dispatched and burned by Victor, and all afflicted
farmers were cured. No one knows the origins of the zombie.

Queen Lucienne of Nikkele's Birthday Celebrated
The Inn of the Masque D'Or held a special celebration to mark the 13th
birthday of Queen Lucienne XIII of Nikkelia. Several contests were sponsored,
and free cake and pear champagne were distributed to all.
Sabrina won the poetry contest with a ode to Queen Lucienne. Many complex
riddles were entered in the riddle contest, unfortunately the winner's name was
not available. The martial contest was canceled due to Orc attacks, and the
most courageous act contest was also canceled due to a scarcity of people
willing to brag about themselves. The contests may be rescheduled for later in
the year.
The political discussion during the party (a required event at any
Nikkelian gathering) centered around the merits of the young Queen's regent,
the Red Duchess. Depending on which side you talked to, she is either known
either for her impressive strengthening of the Nikkelian government and
military, or for her ruthless mistreatment of the Nikkelian people.

Margin Notes: an Editorial
Economic Opportunities In Port Mahon
The population in Port Mahon has been booming, and all these new residents
desperately need all types of crafters and merchants to provide them with the
goods and services that they are accustomed to in the Empire. Because of the
shortage of skilled workers, the base prices on most items are much higher than
in other areas, and crafters are still turning away customers because their
orders can't be filled.
Aside from the high profit margin, Port Mahon also offers freedom from the
stultifying effects of craft guilds, no governmental interference with
business, and no taxes. If you or anyone you know would be interested in
pursuing these opportunities, come to Port Mahon and see for yourself.
We are especially interested in Scribners, Alchemists, Merchants,
Weaponsmiths, and Enchanters. There are NO Scribners in town currently, and
very few of the other trades.
Port Mahon Attacked
The orcs in the area took advantage of the reduction in strength of the
garrison to attack town. The few citizen adventurers that had not already left
town, notably Victor, Greymalkin, Inga Shortfang, Turuth, and Rantual, in
addition to the remaining members of the garrison temporarily commanded by
Tertullian Monocles, were able to defend the town. The orcs were a much more
difficult fight than typical orcs, as they were under the effects of some sort
of potion that made them stronger and tougher to kill. It is unknown where
they got the potions.

Garrison Relief Arrives
Tortullian Monoclese was relieved of his temporary command of the garrison
in Port Mahon by the arrival of some additional troops and officers. The
remainder needed to bring the garrison back up to full strength is scheduled to
arrive this month.
The garrison has been severely understrenght since the attempted
insurrection instigated by Azeel and Achmed during the August Mad Moon. The
only reason any additional men arrived was a letter written by Adam the
Merchant informing officials in the Empire of the events of that month.
