The Monetary System Of Magic Horizons
The basic monetary unit in the Magic Horizons game system is the
Copper Penny (CP). 20 Copper Pennies make up one Silver Shilling (SS). 20
Silver Shillings make up one Gold Sovereign. (GS).
One game day's maintenance is one Silver Shilling. Beings that don't pay
their maintenance will have half of their body points and spell points for that
game day. Additional ranks of maintenance can be purchased for extra body
points and extra spell points.
By way of comparison, a one handed sword costs one Silver Shilling, a suit
of chainmail costs 5 SS, and magic items can get as high as 250 silver
shillings, or more. Another important concept is the qualityof the
item. Quality items cost twice as much, and gain certain benefits. Quality
armor gains one resist versus breakage during the game day, and two armor
points. Quality weapons gain one resist per game day, and add one to your
effective Rank with the weapon skill. High quality items cost five times as
much, have two resists per game day, and gain either 4 points of armor, or 2
additional ranks in the weapon skill.
Beginning characters start out with 5 Silver Shillings with which to
purchase equipment, but don't have to pay maintenance for their first game day. The Port Mahon Office of Tourism and Commerce
