Located in the exciting metropolitan setting of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Metropolitan State University offers flexible and affordable bachelors and masters degree programs for persons seeking professional growth, career advancement and personal satisfaction. The university was founded in 1971 and celebrated its 25th anniversary during the 1996-97 school year. The Twin Cities-based four-year public university has enabled more than 13,000 individuals to earn their degrees over the past 25 years. Recent high school graduates, part- and full-time working students and returning adults appreciate Metro States flexible scheduling of evening, weekend and daytime classes, quality programs, excellent faculty, small classes and student-centered approach. One of seven Minnesota state universities within the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, Metro State is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. Metro State offers both traditional and nontraditional degree programs, including structured four-year undergraduate programs in a variety of majors, as well as individualized programs tailored by students with advice from faculty to meet specific career and personal goals. Students interested in graduate studies can choose from a traditional M.B.A., a masters program for those in nonprofit management or public administration (master of Management and Administration) or a Master of Science in Nursing. Undergraduate degree programs offered include the individualized bachelor of arts, structured bachelors degrees in accounting, applied mathematics, business administration, computer information systems, criminal justice, economics, English, ethnic studies, finance, history, human resource management, human services, international business, law enforcement, liberal arts, management, management information systems, marketing, nursing, philosophy, professional communication, psychology, public administration, social science, social work, technical communication, womens studies and writing. Although, Metro State students complete more than 80 percent of their learning in classes, they also take advantage of independent studies, internships, theory seminars, which are shorter than courses, and assessments of prior learning, where credit is awarded for college-level learning gained through experiences outside the classroom. Metro State offers classes at locations throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area for the convenience of students, including a downtown Minneapolis Campus at 730 Hennepin Ave., a St. Paul Campus at 700 E. Seventh St., and class sites in Brooklyn Center, Bloomington and the Midway area of St. Paul. Students complete their studies under one of four colleges or two schools: the College of management, which includes undergraduate and graduate management and business program areas; the College of Arts and Sciences, which includes arts, humanities, mathematics, sciences and communication areas; the College of Professional and Community Studies, which includes human services, psychology and social work; the School of Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice and Public Safety; the School of Nursing; and First college, which houses individualized degree programs that are not currently offered through the other colleges. As a public state university, Metro States tuition is among the lowest in Minnesota. Costs vary depending on the number of classes you take.
