Located in the heart of a dynamic metropolitan area of about two million people, the lovely Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota—really two campuses, one in Minneapolis and one in St. Paul—is one of the finest and most educationally diverse and comprehensive campuses in the country. Its 19 colleges and professional schools offer more than 150 undergraduate and 180 graduate majors and programs, many with national rankings, leading to degrees in the liberal arts, biological and physical sciences, agriculture, engineering, architecture, business, education, human development, environmental studies, health sciences, law, and public affairs.

The rich educational opportunities are not limited to the conventional classroom. Students on the Twin Cities campus can choose from a multitude of special learning opportunities, including study abroad in more than 60 countries, internships, honors programs, and various forms of independent study and research—under the guidance of distinguished professors whose research and scholarship have brought the University national and international recognition for educational excellence. A vast array of educational services and resources—including an impressive five-million-volume library system and a network of more than 20,000 computers with student access—support and augment these academic offerings.

When not concentrating on academic pursuits, U of M students can participate in any of about 500 campus organizations or attend any of the hundreds of extracurricular events scheduled on campus during the year—including films, lecture series, concerts, dances, festivals, and sports/ recreational events. In addition, they have before them the cultural, social, and recreational bounty of a large, progressive urban center that is a virtual wonderland of theaters, galleries, concert halls, museums, restaurants, and night spots.
