MEMO TO WUMBA CLUBS REGARDING GRAND NATIONAL TEAMS 2007-08

Clubs may begin holding Grand National Team qualifying games starting in September 2007 and continuing until the District 13 finals, which is in the spring of 2008, usually held in early March. Details will be on our WUMBA web site and the District 13 web site. I will inform you as soon as I know the dates.

Qualifying is very simple. Just play in one of the club GNT games held between now and spring. There will be the four flights as there were last year:
C=non-Iife master with up to 500 points; B=up to 2000 points; A=up to 5000 points and A+= the superflight, which is unlimited by points. Flight level is determined by the number of masterpoints held at the beginning of September 2007.

Clubs may use ACBL score for the games and send a copy of the game report plus $1.25 per table to ACBL. Players may play with any other players, even if they are in a different flight category. Hold a game every month if you like. These games pay sectional rating. For example, in a 10 table game, first place pays 3.00 masterpoints, half red and half black. Also overall awards are paid to half the field in each flight.

I would like to see many clubs hold GNT games. Your players will enjoy them and they aren’t very expensive. Most players can afford an extra 25 cents per game. Playing the district finals and winning your flight earns your team a free trip to the summer nationals, which is definitely a nice prize. There you compete against other teams from the 25 other districts in the country for a chance to win nationwide.

All teams that are interested in competing in the district finals will be allowed to do so.
